great devotional book (2009-06-03)

The One Year Book of Josh McDowell's Youth Devotions
We love this devotional book! The readings are just the right length and are relevant to teens. The questions could be a bit more tho't provoking tho. Some seem quite shallow, almost silly. But over all it is a great book!

Good, Not great (2008-04-21)

If you go to public school, or have to deal with a lot of peer pressure, this is great. Most of the topics deal with sex and peer pressure. If you are already committed to purity, and don't deal with peer pressure (i.e. homeschooled), this isn't very good.

Excellent for 11-year-old boy (2008-02-06)

This is the first devotional book that my 11-year-old has enjoyed. He actually looks forward to reading it each day. He's a typical spongebob-watching, mp3-listening, psp-playing pre-teen, so a Christian devotional book holding his attention like this is a Godsend. Highly recommended!

Great family devotions book! (2007-12-08)

Josh McDowell has done it again! This is the second devotions book we have done with our kids. They are teens and need to see how God's Word is relevant to them. This book does just that. In about 7 minutes a day, there are Scriptures to read, a story or devotional thought, then thought provoking questions, and even a sample prayer. I recommend this book for any parent to use with his/her teen. It can also be used by a teen to do personal devotions, and to be honest, it has also challenged me as an adult. If you're looking for a book that will challenge you to live more for the Lord Jesus, this book is for you.

Great book for teenagers (2007-01-10)

Bought this a Christmas gift for teenage granddaughter. I feel good about giving a book by this author.

Awesome planner for elementary age students (2010-07-02)

LUV the planner! Bought one for each of my kids to use this year! Lots of space, lots of organization, lots of helpful quick references on different subjects in the back that will prove to be very useful I think. Great price and I feel it is worth every penny to help give them a great start to the school year :)

Amaze-ing Student Planner! (2010-06-07)

This review is based on my experience with the 2009/2010 version of this planner. I'm posting it here because I imagine most people shopping for a student planner won't be viewing the out-of-date version. So, just keep in mind that it is possible some of the features of the 2010-2011 agenda may be slightly different.

That being said, let me just say that The Amaze Student Planner is the BEST student planner for the age group (2nd-6th grade)I have ever seen. It's perfect for younger students who are becoming responsible for tracking their daily/weekly assignments, but still need a larger format than the smaller planners because their handwriting is still fairly large. Each week is spread out over two 8 1/2 x 11 inch pages with seperate areas for weekly notes and spelling words. Each day provides an area for assignments, with the following individual line items: "Writing", "Reading", "Spelling", "Math", Science", "Social Studies", "After School", and "Teacher/Parent Comments".

The agenda is colorful with lots of extras like kid-related trivia and areas to write monthly goals and record books recently read. The planner also includes a bookmark with loads of stickers the kids can use for special events or projects (e.g. Test, Project Due, Game On!, Family Event, etc.) There are several pages in the back with tons of information, e.g. a world map, U.S. state capitals/abbreviations, a multiplication chart, solar system/planets info, useful math terms, formulas, geometric shapes, capitalization tips, common contractions, parts of speech, punctuation rules, and a sample cursive alphabet...just to name a FEW of them. The only thing it seems to be missing is a full-blown dictionary--but we already have that!

I searched high and low for the perfect planner for my 3rd grader last year, and this was it. Amazon sold out early last year (2009), so I suggest placing your order early!

A bit Confusing (2009-12-10)

The text for each day is fine, does a good job of raising valuable lessons about life and God. The bible verses however are too complicated and don't seem to support the lesson very well. Maybe they are just too deep or advanced for me so they are hard to explain to the kids. I think a different version of scripture or other supporting bible verses would drive the lessons home a bit more. Still, it makes for decent conversation with the kids about how to live a life with Jesus.

Jesus wants our precious little Children! (2009-12-01)

We were so excited to get this little book! We wanted something we could read after dinner with our little children, oldest one 3.

What you will find are short little devotions, a few sentences long with a scripture for each day, that will open up opportunities for conversations and prayer with your little ones. God wants us to shape their hearts, and teach them every day. We have other books with Bible stories, but this one helps to open up the hearts of little ones and teach them what it means to walk with their Savior.

Ignore the negative review posted on this site! This is not an empty book about religion! It is much much more!

Amazing and helpful book (2008-06-16)

What a wonderful way to share the gospel with your children, grandchildren, or even the child within you. You won't be dissapointed with this wonderfully illustrated devotional.

Wonderful perpetual calendar book. (2007-05-21)

This book is a nice little daily inspirational perpetual calendar that kids can spend just a few minutes a day reflecting on their faith. As kids learn to understand the bible better then these passages grow stronger and more meaningful to use in their daily lives through the years. The cartoon illustrations are very cute. I have personally bought 50 copies over the last 5 years to give as gifts. I hope you enjoy as much as I do with my children.

GREAT KIDS DEVOTIONAL (2007-04-05)

I have to say... as a mom who is very concerned about the spiritual upbringing of her children, I highly recommend this book. Especially for those who have small children with short attention spans- as most do at early ages. Yes, the devotionals are short, but to the point, and my kids actually get it. The gospel is simple- why complicate things... After we read the days devotion I ask them simple questions that bring out certain points in the reading. Through these devotionals, they are learning how to apply these principals to life at home, in relationships, at school, and in their own spritual growth, and so on. Yes, I recommend this book.

Life isn't easy just because you're a kid. Maybe you know how tough it can be. Bad things sometimes happen that make you feel sad, afraid, lonely, or confused. In those times, you often need encouragement, wise advice, or help trusting in God in order to feel better. Streams in the Desert for Kids is a year-long book of devotions to help you when things seem hard. It is based on a famous book written many years ago---but this book is for today, for you. It has great stories, sports info, cool scientific facts, and timeless wisdom. Best of all, it draws on scripture from the NIV translation to share all the amazing insights into God's Word from the classic Streams in the Desert in ways you can relate to, and it helps you apply those insights to your life.

I like this devotional (2010-04-23)

This is a great guide for a teen or a pre-teen to use every day. It has a true to the Bible devotional story for each day of the year. It is written to relate to their age group and seems to leave the child wanting to pick it back up the next day. I have taken this book into our child care center and we use it as a guide for our Bible Study time with the children, it is working wonderfully! I also think it would make a good gift for your child or grandchild.

Good little daily devotional for children (2010-04-08)

Streams in the Desert for Kids makes me think of Our Daily Bread, available in many church narthexes. Each page has a title, verse, paragraph with a short background description and analogy or explanation, and one- or two-sentence prayer.

The lessons are simple, such as Hebrews 1:11 on page 254. Streams in the Desert for Kids talks about clothes wearing out as an analogy for everything "wearing out" or getting older except God. The prayer says, "Dear Lord, thank you for being with me when I feel alone. I am so glad that you never change." Short and sweet, just perfect for a daily devotional for kids, although this might be a good devotional for those who do not have the time for in-depth study every day.

Excellant! (2010-03-24)

Remember the wisdom and hope found within the page of the original Streams in the Desert. Now imagine it rewritten, using the popular NIV version of the Bible, and formatted to touch the heart of tweens everywhere. What a blessing! What a joy to share with my grandchildren my love for this classic.
It is arranged in daily readings, making it simple to use as a devotional. I was reading it aloud to a cluster of grandchildren. When I went to get it again, it had disappeared! Counting grandchildren I realized that the 12 year old was missing. Yup, curled up in a quiet corner reading this book.
The reading are appropriate for family devotions as well. They should be acceptable for all Christian denominations.
I highly recommend this book!!

Pulling-No-Punches Devotional For Kids (2010-03-17)

My son is only four but he's very bright (as I'm sure all your children are) and we've been using this devotional as part of his daily Bible study. My wife and I read them first and sometimes we leave some things out like death of a loved one but most of the are good for him. The subject matter is not fluffy as one might think a kids devotional would be (I find many adult devotionals very flowery also) but it gets straight to the point on many topics. Of course we discuss them with our son but nothing has been over his head yet. The updated writing adds MP3 players and video games but other then that I don't know what in the book was modernized. In one devotion it came across like the author bought into evolution but we used it to show not all of those who are believers have everything right. If you're looking for a good devotional I highly recommend this one.

1 Star = Pathetic
2 Stars = Fair
3 Stars = Good
4 Stars = Excellent
5 Stars = Life changing

Highly Recommended for 8 - 12 (2010-03-17)

This is a great little devotional. My daughter is 11, and while this is not a tween-focused devotional, I think that the issues are presented in a generic enough way, that each child can apply the thoughts, prayers and challenges to her particular circumstances. To me that is much stronger than trying to fit stereotypical age-specific situations into Biblical teaching.

Each one-page entry has one scripture verse, a bit of teaching and application about that verse, and a closing prayer. I'm not always a fan of a scripted prayer, but I think that in this book it is effective to teach children to rely on God and include Him -- in their daily trials, problems, struggles, and anything that everyday life brings them.

My daughter couldn't put it down! (2010-01-01)

My 10 year old daughter read the entire Devos for Girls Book 1 and bought this Book 2 with her birthday money. She understands the concepts of reading one-a-day for a devotional, but she sat down and read the whole thing at one time, and is going back now to re-read it on the respective days. She's a good girl that soaks up Christian values and morals, and I suppose if they make a Book 3, we'll purchase it, too!

Getting Closer To God (2005-08-13)

I'm pretty busy. Last year entered 6th grade, and it was pretty nerve wracking. Luckily, it calmed down. But around Christmas, I was searching for things that I wanted on Amazon and saw this book. I put it on my wishlist and my great aunt gave it to me.
The first couple of days, I tried to memorize the verses, but I soon gave that up. Even so, this book has good devotions that are both quick and meaningful. The Bible passages are just right, and each morning I get closer to God.
If you want to get a good devotions book for girls up to 12, you need to get this book.

Great Calender for Asperger or High Functioning Autism (2010-01-25)

This has been a great calender for our preteen. He has had multiple social skills classes and therapy so some of the items are repeated information. However, many of the items are new and very relevant to him. It also helps in intiating conversations about different subjects or issues he has at school or the future.
